Cross-layer security and resilience in wireless mesh networks

چکیده
Security and Resilience has become an important concern in the security design and architecture of future wireless networking technologies like Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN) [1, 2]. Network operators and service providers consider mesh networking to be a serious candidate to solve the so called “last mile problem” based on their wider coverage than traditional wireless LANs and their lower deployment cost than 3G cellular networks. While there are several usage scenarios [3] and business opportunities [4] and there exist the so called community based mesh networks that are operated by individuals, the real business potential lies in operator based mesh networks. Such examples include Ozone's mesh network in Paris (www.ozone.net/en/) and The Cloud in the City of London (www.thecloud.net). If such pilot projects turn out to be successful, then mesh networking may become extremely popular and wide-spread.

Due to wireless nature and hostile environment, providing of security is a critical and vital task in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). It is known that key management is an integral part of a secure network. Unfortunately, in most of the previous methods, security is compromised in favor of reducing energy consumption. Consequently, they lack perfect resilience and are not fit for applications ...

Simultaneous routing and resource allocation has been considered in wireless networks for its performance improvement. In this paper we propose a cross-layer optimization framework for worst-case queue length minimization in some type of FDMA based wireless networks, in which the the data routing and the power allocation problem are jointly optimized with Fuzzy distributed H∞ control strategy ....
متن کاملAn Adaptive Key Management Framework for the Wireless Mesh and Sensor Networks
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and wireless mesh networks (WMNs) are popular research subjects. The interconnection of both network types enables next-generation applications and creates new optimization opportunities. Currently, plenty of protocols are available on the security of either wireless sensor networks or wireless mesh networks, an investigation in peer work underpins the fact that ...
متن کاملA Systematic Security Approach in Wireless Mesh Networks
Wireless mesh networking has emerged as a key technology to provide wide-coverage broadband networking. It benefits both service providers with low cost in network deployment, and end users with ubiquitous access to the Internet from anywhere at anytime. Wireless mesh networks are vulnerable to malicious attacks due to the nature of wireless communication and the lack of centralized network inf...
